This what the backs of those racks looks like. The wires that connect everything. Even when it's neatly done modifications or troubleshooting can cause problems.
Unplugging the wrong cable might cause a computer on one desk somewhere in the building to lose it's connection, or it make disconect an entire department.
It might disconnect the entire network of a remote location. Care must be exercised at all times - the advice to 'measure twice and cut once' applied
here means if you disconnect a cable you not only need to be sure it's the right one but that you know where it was plugged in so you can put it back if necessary.
In any network there are some connections (like our three fiber pipes) that connect to the outside world. If all of those were simultaneously disconnected the network
would be useless, which is why there are three.

There is no excuse for it, but most the brains of most people aren't put together so carelessly. Most people are born with a normally functioning
brain and unless it is damaged in some way it will continue to function normally.
